Once you understand how to play blackjack, you can get into a game without losing your bankroll. If you make your decisions by playing your hunches, you will lose in the long run - there is only one correct decision for any given play, and that decision is based strictly on mathematics. Whether or not you should hit or stand, double down or split a pair, depends on what the laws of probability dictate. Mathematicians, using computers, have matched every possible hand you might hold against every possible dealer up card and it's their way or the highway.

Other options are doubling down (doubling your original bet and receiving only one more card), splitting (making two separate hands out of a pair by matching the original bet), surrendering (forfeiting one-half of your original bet and throwing in your hand), and insurance (a hedge bet available when the dealer shows an ace as her up card.

This option allows the player to double his original bet, in which case he must draw one additional card to his hand and cannot draw any more cards thereafter. To double down, the professional player turns his cards face up, and places them in front of his bet. Then he takes an amount equal to his original bet and places those chips next to that bet, so that there are now two equivalent bets side by side. In games where the cards are dealt face up, the player simply places the additional bet next to his original to indicate the double down.
Professional Players
Normally, one ace should be seen for every thirteen cards. If there is any disparity from the usual number, the RC needs to be adjusted. This is generally only done for betting situations, and then only when the adjustment might make a difference on the amount you will wager. This may sound a little complicated, so let me give you a few examples to show how it works. If you were playing in a double-deck game at casino and approximately half a deck (twenty-six cards) had been played, you should have seen two aces.
